Spotify streaming guide.

Why every stream matters

Spotify streams contribution.

  1. Spotify Charts (Global and Country: Daily, Weekly, and Viral; Global Music Video Chart)

  2. Global charts (Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S.)

  3. National charts (Billboard U.S., Billboard Japan, Billboard Korea, Oricon Japan, ARIA, UK Official Charts, and many European charts)

  4. Circle Charts (Digital, Streaming, and Global K-pop)

  5. Music show digital scores through Circle Chart performance (indirectly)

Free and Paid streams both count

You can stream with Spotify Free on mobile. Follow the complete guide below before you begin.

Stream with multiple accounts

Don't depend on a single streaming account. Even if you have a Premium account running on Stationhead, create and use additional Free accounts as part of your regular streaming routine.

Use the right playlist

  • Use a playlist with the main song repeated at least 20 times.
  • Keep filler tracks essential and strategic—use them only to increase streams or help curate the algorithm for both the song and the artist.
  • Use multiple playlists and rotate between them. Avoid playing the same playlist continuously.

Required Spotify engagement

  • Interact with and stream the song directly from the artist’s profile.
  • Create your own playlist featuring the song.
  • Interact with the song inside playlists, especially Spotify’s curated playlists.
  • Share the song from the artist’s profile, your library, playlists, and especially Spotify’s curated playlists.

Setup prior to streaming.

Turn off Autoplay so the music stops when the playlist finishes. This gives you more control and prevents other songs from affecting your algorithm and Spotify Wrapped.

Important notes for creating a playlist

  • Creating your own playlist counts as fan engagement. It shows that you like the song enough to include it in your playlist, not just listen to it once.
  • Add 2–3 songs between repeats of the main song. Keep filler tracks essential and strategic, such as increasing streams or helping curate the algorithm for the song and artist. Similar-genre songs from other artists can also support artist exposure.
  • Create one playlist at a time and share it on your social media.

Spotify streaming.

Spotify looks at how listeners interact with a song, not just how many times it is played. Streaming from different entry points shows broader, more organic engagement. Each method can influence different areas, from playlisting algorithms to the artist’s visibility and discovery within Spotify.

    Stream from multiple playlists

Make sure each playlist is thoughtfully curated with the songs you want to focus on. Create or find multiple playlists and alternate between them instead of playing the same playlist every time.

Streaming settings.

These settings apply only to the Spotify Premium mobile app. The free mobile app only offers streaming with Smart Shuffle. Mobile users can stream through a mobile browser instead. The complete guide will be explained in the next section.

Before you stream

  • Make sure you have saved the song to your library.
  • Turn off Shuffle so the playlist plays in order.
  • Turn off Repeat and Repeat One so the playlist stops once it is completed. This works together with turning off Autoplay in Settings.
  • Use a different playlist if you want to keep streaming.

Sharing a song.

01Play the song

02Share the song directly from Spotify to your social media or messaging app

03Include the artist and song name when posting on social media

Social media post containing the artist name, song name, and Spotify link

04When you find a shared link on social media, open it and play the song

Important notes for sharing a song

  • Sharing the song can contribute to Spotify Viral Chart activity, helping the algorithm promote it through playlists and radio to reach new audiences.
  • Sharing a song and playing it through the link supports real streams from unique listeners, which can help chart performance.
  • Share from different entry points—including the artist’s profile, your library, playlists, and especially Spotify’s curated playlists—to maximize its impact.

Spotify Free streaming on mobile.

Spotify Free users on the desktop app and web player can choose specific songs and play playlists in order instead of using Smart Shuffle by default. The main difference is that Spotify Free includes ads.
